A Southern Winter?

OK, so here is how we spend winter in the south. Go to the store, stock up on food then get snowed in for a few days. Go to the store, stock up on food then get snowed in for a few days. Go to the store, stock up on food then snowed in for a few days. Oh, wait a minute. Sometimes we're iced in instead. We found out before we left Charleston that a big snow storm was coming along I-40 so we stopped at our neighborhood Ingles on the way home and stocked up. The next day we got about 9" of snow. It wasn't as bad as the week-before-Christmas-snow and we were dug out in a few days.

On our day of freedom we got really crazy and went to Asheville. We got our supplies then had freezing rain which kept us in for a few days. It wasn't as bad as the Christmas Day storm. The trees weren't falling down around us.

We got out once again and went into Black Mountain for more food. This time we were in for snow topped with freezing rain, rain, sleet, etc.

As promised, it snowed a few inches then we had sleet/rain all night and the next day.

Once again the trees were heavy with ice but very few were cracking and falling around us.

The cats don't mind being snowed in.

The trees were bending from the weight of the ice.

Saturday the sun came out for a bit in the afternoon. It made the trees sparkle.

We just started out for a walk when dark clouds rolled in and the wind kicked up and chunks of ice were falling everywhere. We chickened out and went back home.

At about 5:00 our neighbor, Barbara, called and we walked down to meet her at the gazebo.

Dark clouds started to roll in again so we all headed for home.

Sunday morning the sun was out and the trees were sparkling again.

Throughout the afternoon the sun was melting the ice on the trees and it was raining ice chunks in the woods. The trees that were bent over from the weight of the ice were springing back up.

Sunset.
