The morning I took this we had icy road conditions. George, a friend of ours who has a house here at Creston, tried going into Asheville and got stuck on the ice trying to drive up Crooked Creek Road. He called us (at about 8:15am) to warn us of the roads and we could see him out our window sitting on the edge of the road. Another car tried going up the hill and turned around and went back down. He eventually made it into town but had to take a detour because of an accident on Highway 9. Highway 9 is extremely curvy and in some areas is just a series of switchbacks. NOT a road to drive on in icy conditions. Within an hour or so the ice cleared up and the roads were fine. We had a hike scheduled at Creston and it turned out to be a beautiful day.
